Ranger U slide, lecture and field programs cover a wild range of topics that focus on both the natural and cultural history of Ken-Caryl Ranch Open Space. Pre-registration is required for all programs. Class sizes are a minimum of 5 and maximum of 30 unless otherwise noted.
Family Canoe Trip
Join Centennial Canoe Outfitters for a wild weekend on the Gunnison River near Grand Junction. Paddle through canyons, view wildlife, star gaze, and roast marshmallows around the campfire. Have a fun filled weekend on the easy-to-paddle river and navigate a few easy whitewater sections for some thrills. Canoes, paddles, lifejackets, waterproof dry packs for personal gear and food will be provided. You will need to provide a tent, sleeping bag and personal gear. Please note course fee does not include transportation to drop-in location near Grand Junction, Colorado. Centennial Canoe Outfitters will meet the group Saturday morning at 6:30am on June 19. Maps and trip information will be provided prior to the trip. No children under 6 years old. Children 6-17 must be with a paying adult.

Wine Tasting Canoe Trip on the Gunnison River
Join award winning Grand River Vineyards from Palisade, Colorado for a delightful weekend of wine tasting, education, and canoeing. During Happy Hour and the evening meal, they will feature their favorite wines and explain which wines compliment which foods. While floating through Horsethief and Ruby Canyons, you will pass high walls of red sandstone and shale deposited during the age of the dinosaurs. Canopy Tree Climbing Programs
Family Canopy Tree Climbing (Ages 8-Adult)
No experience necessary to get a birds-eye view of your surroundings. A certified instructor provides all the arborist ropes and equipment to keep you and the tree safe as you hoist yourself into the canopy. If there is lightning the program will be cancelled. Maximum 12.

Ancient Woodland People Course # 21566
Try your skills at flint knapping, using an atlatl, making clay pots, and grinding corn with a mano and metate like the ancient woodland people who once inhabited the Ken-Caryl Valley. Visit a mock archeological dig site and find artifacts that would have been used during this time period.

The Ute Way of Life Course # 21567
Set up camp, find out what life in a tepee would have been like, play Native American games, and make Native American crafts. Find Chief Colorow in the rocks and explore the Ute culture. Minimum 20.

Pack your wagon and travel the Bradford Trail in search of gold and try your luck at gold panning. Learn pioneer games, make crafts of yesteryear and find out what it would have been like to live on the Ranch in the 1850’s.
