Ken-Caryl Ranch History
John C. Shaffer bought land here in 1913 and built the Manor House and two adjacent homes for his sons, Kent and Carroll.  John and his wife, Virgie, entertained lavishly.  Shaffer brought the Hereford breed to Colorado with his prize bulls, Deacon and Prince Domino.
