Ken-Caryl Ranch History
Archaeologists from the Colorado Archaeological Society state that the erosion of the foothills dates back to over 60-100 million years ago.  The two hogbacks are named Dakota and Lyons.  The distance between them is about two miles.  The Valley floor consists of Arkosic sandstone from the Pennsylvania Fountain Formation.
